Use the municipal after-loss guide
The Ville de Québec publishes a French-language guide après sinistre. Keep it with the incident paperwork as a route to the City’s recovery information. Be specific about the municipality and address when asking for help: Québec City and the province of Québec are not interchangeable permit or incident-report contacts.

Identify the building decision maker
A household, landlord, property manager and co-ownership representative may each need a different record. Write down who controls access, who approves the building scope and who handles personal belongings. If one person coordinates the project, confirm the limits of that role. An update from a coordinator should identify whose decision it reports, especially where an insurer or authority still needs to respond.
Preserve the explanation behind a material decision
A proposal to retain, clean or replace an element should explain the assessed condition and intended outcome. Ask for a marked room list and photographs where safe and available. If the building has protected or significant features, resolve the appropriate professional and municipal review before irreversible work. Record changes to the scope as they happen so the completion review can use the final approved version.
What to include in a useful assessment request
| Include | Keep it specific |
|---|---|
| Location and building | Full address, unit, municipality and property type. |
| Known condition | Affected rooms, visible issues and what has not been assessed. |
| Current restrictions | Who controls access and which services or areas are unavailable. |
| Decision needed | The particular assessment, scope question or repair discussion you want. |
Share observations, not guesses about hidden damage. Keep medical records, identification numbers, banking details and unrelated personal information out of an initial enquiry. Use the project worksheet if you need help preparing the brief.
Questions to resolve before authorizing the next stage
0 of 3 checked
If the answer is unknown, name the person who will resolve it and record a follow-up date. A checked list organizes the conversation; it is not permission to enter, a technical assessment or a municipal approval.
