Identify the incident question separately from repair planning
Use the City of London’s fire and emergency services page to find the appropriate fire-service route. When asking about repairs, explain that you need the building or relevant municipal contact for the proposed work. Include “London, Ontario” and the full address so records and enquiries are not misdirected.

Resolve the household and property handoff
For a tenant, the landlord’s building repair plan and the household’s belongings or living arrangements are separate conversations. For an owner, identify the person who can manage calls and access while the household is displaced. Keep one list of approved work orders and another list of unanswered questions. This helps prevent an urgent visit from becoming an unclear authorization for a much larger scope.
Ask for a completion standard while the work is being priced
Before choosing a proposal, ask what records you will receive for cleaning, water work, contents and repairs. Identify any specialist assessment or municipal inspection that belongs in the handover. Agree how outstanding items will be listed and resolved. A clear completion discussion makes the proposal easier to assess before the project reaches its final invoice.
What to include in a useful assessment request
| Include | Keep it specific |
|---|---|
| Location and building | Full address, unit, municipality and property type. |
| Known condition | Affected rooms, visible issues and what has not been assessed. |
| Current restrictions | Who controls access and which services or areas are unavailable. |
| Decision needed | The particular assessment, scope question or repair discussion you want. |
Share observations, not guesses about hidden damage. Keep medical records, identification numbers, banking details and unrelated personal information out of an initial enquiry. Use the project worksheet if you need help preparing the brief.
Questions to resolve before authorizing the next stage
0 of 3 checked
If the answer is unknown, name the person who will resolve it and record a follow-up date. A checked list organizes the conversation; it is not permission to enter, a technical assessment or a municipal approval.
